to streptomycin, it is not entirely clear how far this risk extends to the foetus. Certainly streptomycin does cross the placenta: this was established in 1945 by Woltz and Wiley and independently by Heilman et al. (1945). Subsequent work (Bernhard et al., 1950 ; Riskxer et al., 1952 ; Charles, 1954) confirmed that, although the effectiveness of the placental barrier varies, streptomycin and dihydrostreptomycin (Jacobsen, 1953) are present in foetal blood in up to 500% of maternal concentrations. The effect of these drugs on the foetus was studied experimentally by Risker et al., using guinea-pigs ; no disturbance of

Background and purpose: Maternal-foetal attachment (MFÂ) is a term which describes the relationship between a pregnant women and her foetus. Mothers with high MFÂ show more confidence in their new role and a better postpartum adjustment. The present study was conducted to determine the effect of counting foetal movement on maternal-foetal attachment. Materials and methods: This interventio...
متن کاملEffect of controlled alterations in maternal dietary retinol on foetal and neonatal retinol status and pregnancy outcome in pigs
The objective of this experiment was to examine the effects of feeding a vitamin A deficient diet (VAF) to pigs at different times on day 100 of foetal and days 0, 1 and 2 of neonatal development. Three treatments included a control (n=12), VAF for 100 days before mating and during the first month of pregnancy (n=13; VAF–control), and VAF during the oestrous cycle before mating and throughout p...
متن کاملSynergistic Effect of Silver Nanoparticles and Streptomycin Antibiotic on the MexX Gene Expression of Pump Efflux System in Drug-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa Strains
Introduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most important infectious agents in humans, which is difficult to control in hospitals due to its resistance to various antibiotics. Efflux pump systems play an important role in the drug resistance of this bacterium to a variety of antibiotics. This study aimed to determine the antimicrobial synergistic effect of silver nanoparticles and the a...
متن کاملEffect of maternal undernutrition on human foetal pancreas morphology in second trimester of pregnancy
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Maternal undernutrition and hyperglycaemia during pregnancy, as well as foetal undernutrition affecting the development of foetal endocrine pancreas structure and function, especially that of β-cells is well known. This study was undertaken to look into the changes in pancreatic islets morphology of aborted normal human foetuses (16-20 wk old) of undernourished and adequ...
